A Powder Paradise with Local Charm
Whitewater Ski Resort, located near Nelson, BC, is a beloved hidden gem known for its incredible powder, laid-back vibe, and stunning alpine views. The resort offers a variety of terrain, from gentle beginner slopes to steep, challenging runs and expansive tree skiing. With an average of over 40 feet of snow each winter, Whitewater is famous for its deep powder, making it a paradise for powder hounds. The resort’s small-town atmosphere and local charm create a welcoming environment, and its focus on maintaining a relaxed, non-commercialized experience sets it apart from larger resorts. With affordable lift tickets, great après-ski options, and an ever-growing reputation for quality snow, Whitewater offers an authentic mountain experience for skiers and snowboarders of all levels.

We were lucky enough to hit Whitewater on a fresh powder day, which is what this little mountain is truly known for. A light 5 cm dusting made all the difference, turning the mountain into a powder paradise. Having a local guide us to some hidden spots was a game-changer. My favorite area was the tree runs near the Glory Chairlift—just a short hike up to find untouched lines. We spent most of the day exploring the woods, riding through a gully, and enjoying natural powder pillows. While we stuck to the resort runs, many people come here for backcountry skiing, and there’s so much more to explore for those looking to expand their skills.

HERE ARE SOME TIPS
Grab Their Food
With six different dining options, the food at Whitewater is top-notch. It’s honestly some of the best mountain food we’ve ever had—definitely worth trying!
Full Nelson
The town of Nelson, founded in 1888, is another historic mining town with plenty of charm. Be sure to check out the murals scattered throughout the town—each one tells a unique story. My personal favorite is the tribute to JP Auclair, a bird-inspired piece. If you’re not familiar with him, I highly recommend giving him a quick Google search—his influence on the skiing and snowboarding world is legendary.

Pros
- Quiet, local resort vibe
- Amazing powder runs
- Convenient on-mountain dining options
Cons
-
Remote location—can be a bit far for city dwellers like me
- Limited terrain variety, mostly geared towards advanced riders
- Powder days can get crowded as everyone flocks to the mountain

If you're looking to level up your riding, spend at least a week here. This charming mountain resort will make your powder dreams come true. Just remember to be courteous to the locals—they're friendly and you'll likely share a chairlift ride with them.
