Discover a Not So Hidden Gem
RED Resort in Rossland, BC, is a hidden gem known for its authentic, laid-back vibe and exceptional terrain. As one of Canada’s oldest ski resorts, it offers over 3,850 acres of skiable terrain, including wide groomers, steep tree runs, and backcountry options. It’s a paradise for advanced skiers and snowboarders, but with plenty of beginner and intermediate terrain as well. The resort is less commercialized than larger destinations, which means shorter lift lines and a more local, welcoming atmosphere. RED also boasts stunning views of the Kootenay Rockies, affordable lift tickets, and unique experiences like overnight snowcat skiing.
What an incredible hidden gem! I wasn’t expecting such an amazing resort with extensive terrain spread across five different peaks. The facilities are modern, and the chairlifts are impressively fast. For a unique experience, you can take a snowcat up Mt. Kirkup for just $20. With so many marked runs, it’s easy to find fresh powder, and when we visited, the resort wasn’t too crowded. Short chairlift lines meant we could get in plenty of laps. Its remote location, far from any major Canadian city, attracts a lot of locals, while its proximity to the U.S. border brings in many American visitors taking advantage of the favourable exchange rate.
